Web Development QuestionsWhat follows are some questions we often get asked. This isn't exhaustive! we get asked a lot of questions about web development and website design. Everyone of them is valid. So if you have something you would like to ask, please do-so. Always happy to help.
Building applications can take all of the time available. Again, we first understand where we are aiming and then look to build a project that meets the goals. Our preferred way of working is to deliver in short 4 week phases, It may require a number of those phases back-to-back to complete a larger project. For many, the fast turnaround does seem extraordinary. We do achieve that and successfully deliver on that basis I have to deliver something ASAP - can you meet a tight deadline? It is not uncommon for a customer to come to us who needs there project yesterday In the case where time is tight we focus on the high priorities. Taking this approach we can often deliver a Fast Fix and then focus on the lesser priority work following the initial delivery. From experience, it is often outside influences that drive deadlines and once action is being seen to happen there is less concern. Our development approach is to always show demonstrable progress towards the deliverables. That tends to re-assure and keep the firefighting to a minimum How quickly can you deliver designs? Web design work is all about creating an interface that is simple to use and easy to understand. Once we have a good idea of the web development goal, we will then pull together mockups of screen layouts. This is also termed visual prototyping. These designs can be pulled together within a 5 days of a go-ahead. We always aim to deliver prototype designs quickly as they ensure that the understanding is clear between everyone, it also gives the opportunity to change the project before "development proper" has begun. what is the internet development process?
Can you deliver in quick phases? Delivering in quick phases is at the heart of what we do. This is key to keeping momentum on a project and ensuring that the development is in-line with everyone's expectations. Our preferred development project phase is 3 to 4 weeks in length. However, we have to be flexible where deadlines or project size dictates a different delivery schedule How will I update my site following delivery? When building sites we are always mindful that the client should have complete control over their data and website once the project has gone live. We have a content management system called Sitemanager that is our back-end system. Sitemanager is easy to use and consistent throughout. Will you be available to support us going forward Once a site has gone live, we are always there to support and assist. We provide maintenance and support FREE for the first 12 months. That covers all bugs / issues that need fixing and any assistance you need with managing your application. Beyond that initial year, we can offer maintained and support packages, in-line with your requirements Full service - including hosting and maintenance? We are happy to provide a total service to our customers. That is often a preferred way of working for many customers. Our hosting environment is managed out of secure data-centers and we are able to offer guarantees on uptime and also support. We have a 24 hour helpdesk available online. that alerts the support team automatically of any issues. We also provide phone numbers (of real people - in your time zone!) that you can contact in case of an emergency How can we start working together? The first thing to do is to contact us. Tell us what you are looking to achieve and also go through the project planner. we would then have a no-obligation discussion of the project over the telephone to confirm our understanding of your goals. From that discussion we would then be able to give you some suggested screen prototype designs and a ballpark proposal. Once we have agreement on the scope and price of the project......we are on the route to delivery! What is your availability to start projects? We are a successful team and always busy. That said, the more notice we have of a project the better. We can be accommodating and have been known to drop everything to meet a tight customer deadline. Generally 4 weeks is a good notice period. We can start the requirements and design process within 1 week and then schedule the development team. We can always look to shuffle work around and accommodate your project where necessary Can we pay in advance for a project? We are happy to work on an advance fee basis. We understand that sometimes that is the best way to budget for development and are please to accommodate. Are their any guarantees of a successful delivery? We guarantee all of our work. On completion we also give a FREE 12 month support and maintenance commitment. The only way we can successfully do this is if we are confident in our own delivery. When discussing the payment terms we are happy to accept final payment on signoff and are happy to work with you to accommodate any particular contractual undertakings. How much does a web development project cost? We will be able to quote on your project once we understand what you are looking to achieve. We always encourage our customers to break a project up into phases that can be delivered over short (4 week) periods. That keeps everyone focused and motivation high. Typically, projects range from £8,000 - £12,000 for a solid website and a business application, all sitting on our content management system. We do much bigger projects and a few smaller ones as well. Do you do fixed price work? The majority of our web development work that we undertake is on a fixed price basis. We are happy to work in that way. Additionally we are able to absorb some change in a project, due to the agile development methods that we use. Have you designed my type of website system before? We have a broad experience across many industries (Telecoms, Retail, Consulting, Property, Finance) in a variety of functions (partner management, marketing, financial modeling, complex calculation engines, configurators, database systems). We have not seen it all but can bring our experience of how others have tackled similar aspects to ensure you have a successful outcome. Which programming languages do you use? As a Microsoft partner company, we specialise in Microsoft technologies, we also develop in other languages as well
